Large Animal Veterinary Assistant
Location: Central New Hampshire | Full-Time, 40 hours/week guaranteed
About the Practice
We are a newly established, progressive large animal hospital located just west of Concord, NH, with easy access to major highways. Our practice blends state-of-the-art medicine with a supportive, collaborative team environment.
- Caseload predominantly equine, but we care for all large animal species
- Advanced diagnostics and therapeutics: wellness, preventative care, medical & surgical cases
- Most cases in-hospital; occasional field service work

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled, motivated Large Animal Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. This is a hands-on, hospital-focused role, primarily working with horses while assisting with other large animal species. Field service calls are required occasionally.
The ideal candidate is confident, professional, and motivated to grow within a high-performing veterinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe handling and restraint of horses & other large animals
- Assisting veterinarians with exams, diagnostics, procedures, and treatments
- Supporting medical and surgical case management
- Preparing and maintaining treatment & surgical areas
- Monitoring hospitalized patients & maintaining accurate medical records
- Administering medications under veterinary supervision
- Assisting with lab work & diagnostic imaging
- Professional, compassionate client communication
- Participation in field service calls
Qualifications
- 2–5 years minimum large animal handling experience preferred
- Veterinary clinic experience strongly preferred but not required
- Strong equine and large animal handling skills, with focus on safety
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs; comfortable in physically demanding work
- Comfortable in hospital and field settings, indoors & outdoors
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be 18 years or older
- Dependable, professional, team-oriented
Schedule & Expectations
- Guaranteed 40-hour work week
- Some weekend shifts & on-call responsibilities required
- 90-day trial period before eligibility for benefits
