SEC Financial Reporting Manager
Job Description
The SEC Financial Reporting Manager leads the preparation, consolidation, and analysis of the company’s financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of external and internal financial reporting while partnering closely with cross-functional teams across the organization. The position is responsible for complex accounting analyses, implementation of new accounting standards, and support of key initiatives such as ERP system implementations, all while upholding strong professional and ethical standards.
Responsibilities
- Support the month-end accounting close process by recording journal entries and performing detailed account reconciliations.
- Lead the preparation and review of monthly financial consolidations and develop consolidated financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, statements of equity, and statements of cash flows.
- Analyze fluctuations in financial statements and prepare variance analyses and explanations for management.
- Ensure full compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory and statutory reporting requirements.
- Develop, document, and implement accounting policies and procedures for new business processes and for areas where existing documentation is insufficient.
- Evaluate the impact of new accounting pronouncements and lead or support their implementation within the organization.
- Assist with ERP system implementations, enhancements, and related special projects to improve financial reporting and consolidation processes.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate, complete, and timely financial data for reporting and analysis.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication and interaction.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support the financial reporting and accounting function.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Typically 10 or more years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting and experience with publicly listed companies.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with SEC-related financial reporting and compliance.
- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and month-end close processes.
- Proven ability to prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and related disclosures.
- Ability to evaluate and implement new accounting pronouncements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Consistent professional demeanor and high level of integrity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in both public accounting and publicly listed corporate environments.
- Background in SEC financial reporting and compliance processes.
- Experience supporting or leading ERP system implementations and financial systems projects.
- Strong understanding of consolidation processes and multi-entity reporting structures.
- Ability to develop and document accounting policies and procedures for new or evolving business activities.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Interest in working within a growing, innovation-focused organization.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to organizational growth and change.
Work Environment
This position is based in Rockville, MD, with a planned move to a new office in the Rio area of Gaithersburg in the fall. The role follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of three days in the office and two days remote each week, with flexibility in selecting which days are in-office. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $69.72 - $81.74/hr.
