Location: Houston, TX 77024
Contract Duration: 12 Weeks
Shift: Day (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Pay Rate: $32/hour
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery to support accurate coding, billing, and compliance processes. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:

Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifier codes

Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and regulatory requirements

Abstract and enter data accurately for billing and reporting purposes
-
Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy
-
Adhere to ethical coding standards and organizational policies
-
Support quality improvement and coding accuracy initiatives
-
Mentor and assist less experienced coders when needed
Required Qualifications:
-
High School Diploma or GED (required)
-
Minimum 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience

Ability to code for Neurology providers
-
Strong knowledge of coding guidelines, compliance, and reimbursement methodologies

Effective written and verbal communication skills
Required Certifications (One of the Following):
-
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
-
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
-
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
-
Certified Medical Coder (CMC)
-
Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Associate Degree in a medical-related field
-
Experience in outpatient Neurosurgery coding

Experience with Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding

Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system
Key Skills:

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Knowledge of APC reimbursement methodologies

Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply coding standards

Strong organizational and time management skills
