Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to assist with various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and decontaminate work areas.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% accurate.
- Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
- Follow procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
- 1-2 years of recent phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab, outpatient, or hospital setting.
- Experience with blood draws on all age groups from pediatric to geriatric, including hard sticks.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Phlebotomy certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
Work Environment
This position involves working at two locations: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM at 805 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greer, SC, and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM in Greenville, SC. The role requires the ability to work alone and handle hard stick patients, with an emphasis on maintaining the integrity of specimens during collection and transport.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, South Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.50/hr.
