Location: This role is open to candidates based in either our Carlsbad, CA or Kent, WA office.
Salary range: $80,000 to $110,000, depending on experience.
Summary:
As a Technical Writer you will be responsible for creating technical documentation necessary to maximize customer satisfaction, improve install efficiency and minimize Technical Support requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Write all technical documentation such as Install Manuals, User Guides, Quick Starts etc. for new product development.
- Lead documentation creation plans, ensure realistic schedules are set and achieved with the project managers across multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong collaboration with engineers and PLMs during design and development processes to enhance the final product. Contribute to constructive design review and feedback processes.
- Maintain and sustain existing documentation with minor and major updates as required from time to time.
- Use InDesign, SolidWorks and other tools to produce print and digital documentation for many different Nice products.
- Working from SolidWorks models, produce illustrations that compliment and augment the text in installation manuals and user guides and from time to time create illustrative views for spare parts assemblies.
- Write Technical Bulletins to communicate urgent information to customers.
- Write and maintain 3-part specification documents for HySecurity products
- Actively contribute to training documentation content and reviews. From time to time, attend virtual training sessions with customers to understand and improve pain points.
- Effectively manage your time to accomplish goals despite competing interests.
- Champion the move toward reusable, modular content, web-delivered documentation, and video or animation based technical communication. Continuously look for ways to improve and diversify communication to make it more effective.
- Implements and maintains department policies and standards
- Required to have a strong comfort-level communicating throughout all levels of the organization
- Understand, support and execute all work according to the established procedures of the organization
- Project based assignments as requested
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Undergraduate degree in technical writing, engineering, communications or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in technical communications.
- Software, Primary: MS Office, InDesign, SolidWorks.
- Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, schematics, design, and deployment.
- First language written English (US).
- Nice to have knowledge of common manufacturing and field installation best practices: site preparation, welding types, Concrete work, corrosion considerations, wiring and NEC codes, etc.
- Strong written communication and verbal skills
- Proven ability to multi-task, set project priorities, establish department/discipline goals and objectives for self
- Computer literacy required; including intermediate Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PPT, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail
- Positive attitude, self-motivated and eager to succeed
