Position Overview

Our organization’s School of Medicine, specifically the Department of Urology, is dedicated to fostering academic excellence among faculty, staff, and students. We are in search of faculty members with specialized knowledge in gender-affirming urologic and pelvic surgery to become part of a large, collaborative, multidisciplinary program that offers comprehensive care to transgender and nonbinary individuals.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse patient population referred from various sources.
• Provide clinical care across multiple locations, including the VA Health Care System in San Diego.
• Perform gender-affirming surgical procedures such as vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, and other related reconstructive surgeries.
• Engage in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Participate in scholarly activities aimed at advancing gender-affirming care.
• Contribute to the development and leadership of clinical programs in this expanding specialty area.

Appointment Level

The appropriate academic rank—Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor—will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications

• Possession of an MD or equivalent degree, or an MD/PhD in a health-related discipline.
• Eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification as recognized by the California Medical Board.
• Completion of a Urology residency program.
• Board certification or eligibility in Urology.

Additional Qualifications

• Completion of a fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery (GURS), Gender-Affirming Surgery, or a related subspecialty by the start date of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• A demonstrated or emerging record of scholarly work in gender-affirming care or reconstructive urology.
• At least one year of experience working within a multidisciplinary team focused on the care of transgender and nonbinary patients.
