Jenike & Johanson is looking for a Fabricator/Technician to work alongside our dynamic bulk solids laboratory/shop team. Our San Luis Obispo employees work in a one-of-a-kind lab constructing specialized test equipment, prototype systems, and commercial bulk solids handling equipment. Our end goal is to ensure our clients’ needs are satisfied and that they are thrilled with the results.

Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate weldments from carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum
  • Assemble equipment for customers and internal projects
  • Assemble test rigs with piping, tubing and instrumentation
  • Work as part of the lab team to perform physical modeling and test work
  • Assist with shipping and receiving to package, load and unload test materials and equipment
  • Communicate clearly with engineers and team members about observations and progress
  • Work independently toward the timely completion of work

Qualifications:

  • Well-organized with clean/safe work habits
  • Use of common hand and power tools – table and chop saws, grinders, etc.
  • Steel fabrication and fit up
  • MIG and TIG welding of carbon and stainless steel
  • Cutting with plasma and oxyacetylene torches
  • Read drawings, work from written and verbal instructions to construct equipment from steel, wood, plastic, and aluminum
  • Provide feedback to engineers on manufacturability of designs
  • Critical thinking and the ability to adjust to changes
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to wear a respirator when required (respirator/training given)
  • Forklift operation (we provide training)
  • Crane/rigging operation
  • Capability to lift or move components up 50 lb.

Additional qualifications desired:

  • Low voltage electrical equipment troubleshooting, control cabinet wiring
  • Manual lathe and mill operations
  • Experience working in a laboratory, ability to monitor experiments, document observations, and be familiar with laboratory safety practices
  • Working ability with Apple Mac operating system
  • Hazardous materials experience. Samples range from harmless food products to hazardous powdered chemicals: most low-level hazards
