Position Overview:

This role involves taking x-rays of specific areas of the human body for diagnostic purposes and providing assistance within the imaging department. The focus of this position is solely on plain films and fluoroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate procedures to patients to ensure clarity and provide relevant educational materials.
  • Transport patients between clinical areas and confirm their identity in accordance with established protocols. Aid technologists in preparing patients for radiology exams by positioning them appropriately.
  • Assist technologists with the organization of patient reports and charts, ensuring films are matched with the correct folders and reports are delivered to patient units or physicians.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to prevent unnecessary exposure to patients.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the scope of practice and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and report any unusual activity. Suggest updates or improvements to protocols as necessary.
  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality images and documents to the PACS system, including correct lead markers and patient data/history.
  • Verify that equipment is functioning properly and report any issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment when necessary.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, and film storage areas.
  • In emergency situations, may perform limited CT procedures when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of a Radiology Technology program.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
  • Regularly using hearing and speech for effective communication.
  • Frequent auditory skills to detect body sounds and alarms from equipment.
  • Regularly lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent patient lifting and moving.
  • Regular reaching, gripping, and data entry on a keyboard.
  • Occasionally lifting and moving objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional color vision for identifying and distinguishing colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
  • Rarely kneeling or sitting.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

For Illinois:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiologic Technologists - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Or Radiologic Technologists – Temporary Accreditation - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

For Missouri and Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

For Wisconsin:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Radiographer, Licensed - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
  • ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
