Building Engineer - Facility Services - Base Salary to 95k/year - Washington, DC

  • AllSearch Recruiting is working with a private school located in Washington DC that is looking to add a Building Engineer with some HVAC experience to their staff. The campus is laid out over 40 acres with two primary buildings and a very old monastery on site. The school has provided educational opportunities on this site for 70+ years.
  • The new Building Engineer will need some understanding of commercial HVAC and BAS controls with the ability to multi-task and work closely with the Facilities Manager and the rest of staff to execute their mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance on various building systems and equipment, such as HVAC units, boilers, electrical systems, plumbing, and life safety equipment (fire alarms, emergency generators). They also perform minor structural repairs (e.g., ceiling tiles, doors, flooring).
  • Conducting regular tours and inspections of the building and grounds to identify deficiencies and diagnose potential issues, ensuring everything is in optimal working condition.
  • Monitoring and operating building automation systems (BAS) or building management systems (BMS) to control environmental conditions, optimize performance, and promote energy efficiency.
  • Responding promptly to emergency maintenance calls and situations, which may require on-call availability after hours.
  • Overseeing and coordinating the work performed by third-party contractors and vendors for specialized tasks or large-scale projects, obtaining bids, and ensuring work meets standards.
  • Maintaining detailed records and logs of all maintenance activities, inspections, and work orders. They ensure the building adheres to local and federal safety codes, such as OSHA and fire safety regulations.
  • The Building Engineer will be specifically responsible for the maintenance and repair of the HVAC systems.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable about the management of facilities.
  • Skilled at maintenance and repair of mechanical, structural, electrical, plumbing and especially HVAC systems.
  • Certification or license in HVAC installation maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Skilled at listing, tracking and managing multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 85k - 95k/year range
