A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse with Med/Surg expertise to contribute to high-quality patient care during night shifts. This contract role is ideally suited for experienced professionals ready to support a well-established medical surgical unit in a dynamic hospital setting.

Location:
Position is based in Mount Vernon, IN, at a busy 41-bed medical surgical unit within a reputable hospital campus. Nestled approximately 8 to 11 miles from nearby campuses, this setting offers a supportive environment with experienced leadership and strong CNA assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for a diverse Med/Surg patient population including post-surgical, sepsis, COPD, CHF, and high fall risk patients.
  • Safely manage complex nursing tasks such as telemetry monitoring, chest tube and tracheostomy care, NG/PEG tube management, urinary catheterization, and administration of blood products and Heparin drips.
  • Adhere to established protocols and document care using EPIC charting software, supported by required checkoff training.
  • Participate in floating to other hospital campuses when necessary, with adequate notice.
  • Support unit operations by possibly precepting students and new hires within this teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years strong Med/Surg nursing experience at a Level II trauma center, with at least one travel assignment completed.
  • Active compact RN license, current AHA BLS certification, and NIH Stroke Scale certification required upon application.
  • Proficient in critical thinking and patient assessment; adaptable and resilient with excellent communication skills.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour night shifts, primarily 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Guaranteed 36 hours/week, with options to accept up to 48 hours; overtime applies beyond 52 hours.
  • Approximately three weekends every six weeks and holidays as scheduled.

This 13-week contract offers a structured schedule with bi-weekly orientation and support from seasoned leadership. Travelers must reside outside a 40-mile radius for eligibility.
