Title: Supervisor of Coding

(with EPIC Implementation & Anesthesia Module Expertise)

Location: USA/Remote

Reports to: Senior Manager of Coding/Auditing

FLSA Classification: Full-Time Exempt

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000

* Starting pay varies based on location and experience, in compliance with specific state wage regulations. Competitive rates tailored to your geography and expertise.

Position Overview:

The Supervisor of Coding is responsible for overseeing daily medical coding operations while providing specialized support for EPIC transitions, anesthesia module implementation, and post-implementation coding oversight. This role partners closely with internal transition teams, client facilities, and coding staff to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient coding workflows across EPIC and F1rstAnesthesia platforms. While this position plays a critical role in EPIC implementations, it does not own project management or system build activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and monitor daily medical coding operations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS standards.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to support EPIC implementations for anesthesia providers, including collaboration with client facilities during transition and go-live phases.
  • Support EPIC anesthesia module build and implementation activities within client EPIC environments, in coordination with Onboarding, Transitional Services, and management teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between coders, internal teams, and client facilities regarding EPIC workflows, access, and coding processes.
  • Monitor post-implementation coding performance and workflows to ensure ongoing compliance and operational stability.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to EPIC and F1rstAnesthesia coders.
  • Monitor and update production and quality processes to ensure departmental standards are consistently met.
  • Stay current on coding guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory updates, ensuring adherence across teams.
  • Analyze coding data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve coding-related issues.
  • Utilize coding systems and reporting tools to enhance accuracy, productivity, and performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health information management, Medical Coding, or a related field preferred.
  • CPC certification through AAPC required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical coding experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting coding within Anesthesia Services required; experience in Chronic Pain Management and/or Critical Care Services preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting EPIC implementations and transitions, including anesthesia module exposure.
  • Experience working with EPIC required.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Experience working in complex, multi-client revenue cycle environments preferred. 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS standards.
  • Ability to support and guide teams through system transitions and workflow changes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external client stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple systems.

Physical Requirements

Physical ability to sit, talk, and hear for extended period throughout the workday; stand, walk, push/pull, bend, stoop, kneel and reach on a regular too seldom basis. Repetitive hand motions on a frequent basis include fingering, grasping and handling. Ability to read handwritten and typed documents on paper and/or computer screens.
