Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Deliver specialized cardiac patient care in a stepdown unit setting that focuses on adult and geriatric patients requiring acute observation and intervention. This contract role emphasizes proficiency in cardiac monitoring and management, emergency response, and the administration of cardiac-related therapies.

Location:Positioned in Roanoke, VA, a vibrant city known for its scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and robust healthcare community. Roanoke offers a welcoming atmosphere with cultural amenities, outdoor activities, and a moderate cost of living, making it an appealing place to work and live.

Schedule:

  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.)
  • Weekend commitment: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a six-week period
  • Must work one holiday during the contract term

Key Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Active RN license in Virginia or compact state; pending licenses accepted under certain conditions
  • ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
  • Experience with Epic charting system mandatory

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide cardiac monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias; initiate emergency response protocols including rapid response and code teams
  • Manage IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood transfusions, and care of central and peripheral lines
  • Administer and monitor cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone without titration
  • Deliver respiratory support including oxygen therapy and non-invasive airway management
  • Float within skill set as needed; manage patient ratios ranging from 4:1 to 5:1
  • Support patient throughput focusing on chest pain and post-catheterization care
