The Pharmacy Technician/Cashier is an integral part of our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a passion to serve, and a commitment to the mission and values of our organization! This is a full-time position that will include 1-2 Saturdays per month (or as needed).
Hours of Business:
Monday-Friday 8am - 6pm Closed for Lunch 12:30 -1pm
Saturday 8:30am -12pm
Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician prepares packages and helps to distribute medications. They will perform clerical and other duties related to the operation of a West Virginia and 340B pharmacy as may be required to maintain compliance with legal and other contractual and regulatory requirements.
The Pharmacy Cashier runs the pharmacy cash register, sells dispensed medications and over-the-counter items, offers exceptional customer service, and performs other related duties as required
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TECHNICIANS DUTIES:
- Prepares packages and helps to distribute medications;
- Performs clerical and other duties related to the operation of a West Virginia and 340B pharmacy as may be required to maintain compliance with legal and other contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains register tills in accordance with the needs and demands of the Shenandoah Community Health Finance Department, and informs the pharmacist and the Finance department of any inaccuracies/deficiencies in the cash register.
- Participates in and embraces regularly scheduled performance check-ins with the lead pharmacy technician.
- Assists in the training of new pharmacy staff, including technician trainees, technicians, and pharmacists as is deemed appropriate by the lead pharmacy technician.
- Checks the patient profile and CSAPP regularly to ensure that controlled substances are not being attempted to be filled early or inappropriately. Works with pharmacy staff to monitor prescriptions for patterns of diversion or concerning prescribing practices.
- Obtains information from patients at the original encounter and properly enters such information into the pharmacy software. Such information includes the name, address, telephone number, insurance information, and allergies.
- Processes incoming prescriptions for filling via fax, e-script, phoned in, handwritten, or refill prescriptions.
- Ensures that the correct medication for the correct patient is counted and filled for each prescription order before passing the prescription on to the pharmacist for verification.
- Mixes or compounds medication under the direct supervision of a West Virginia licensed pharmacist.
PATIENT CARE/PROFESSIONALISM:
- Greets the patient at all encounters in a cheerful, professional, and compassionate manner. Provides excellent customer service with the goal of exceeding the expectations of the patients served.
- Consistently ensures that all patient questions are answered and documented, as is necessary, before the patient leaves the pharmacy area, including properly offering pharmacist counseling at each patient encounter.
- Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent with SCH standards; always dresses and grooms appropriately.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with patients, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff; demonstrates the ability to work well in a team environment; always treats patients with kindness, patience, empathy, and respect.
- Answers telephone promptly and in a friendly, helpful, manner.
- Treats all pharmacy staff with dignity, respect, and compassion; demonstrating and embracing the SCH culture of trust, respect, empathy, genuineness, and specificity.
- Supports continual process improvement with regard to patient care with SCH staff.
- Maintains all continuing education requirements for licensing as a West Virginia and/or nationally certified pharmacy technician. Provides proof of licensing and CE to the lead technician on an ongoing basis.
- Maintains all protected health information in accordance with HIPPA and SCH requirements.
- Organizes work in a clear, concise manner ensuring that desired results are achieved with minimum waste or duplication of effort; utilizes resources sensibly to ensure high quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Displays dependability and can be relied upon by others to meet work schedules and perform assigned work in a timely manner.
INVENTORY/FACILITY MANAGEMENT:
- Keeps the pharmacy shelves, OTC area, dispensing areas, counseling areas, and compounding areas clean and dust-free.
- Orders drugs from the wholesaler’s system for both 340B and non-340B drugs on a daily basis to ensure the timely filing of patient prescriptions.
- Consistently seeks ways to improve pharmacy inventory and reduce costs—to help drive pharmacy profitability and produce cost savings to the patient.
- Monitors prescription inventory for expired pharmaceuticals on a daily and monthly manner, and; receives and records information for incoming pharmaceuticals; verifies invoices and statements.
- Maintains a current knowledge of the 340B drug program and identifies eligible patients and prescriptions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current unexpired West Virginia Certified Pharmacy Technician License issued by the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Has sufficient prior experience running a cash register.
- Exceptional customer service skills and attitude; ability to demonstrate high levels of respect, empathy, genuineness, and specificity in all interactions.
- Spanish language proficiency preferred.
