Position Summary:
Connetquot Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Librarian or Assistant to serve the community in our vibrant makerspace and teen area. This position provides technology and reference services, operates and maintains makerspace equipment, and designs and delivers classes and programs for patrons of all ages, with an emphasis on teens and young adults.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable with hands-on technology, creative tools, and instructional delivery, and will have a strong commitment to customer service and lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one assistance at the reference/information desk, helping patrons with technology questions, devices, and software.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot makerspace equipment, which may include: 3D printers, laser cutter/engraver, vinyl cutter, sewing machines, recording equipment, and other emerging technologies, such as large scale poster printer, embroidery machine and sublimation printer.
- Develop and teach classes and workshops on creative technologies and digital literacy.
- Collaborate with other staff on teen programs and support use of the teen space.
- Contribute to collection development in relevant technology and maker subject areas.
- Stay current on emerging technology trends and recommend new tools or programs for the library.
- Support library-wide programming, outreach, and special events as needed.
Qualifications:
For Librarian:
- Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
For Librarian Trainee:
- Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS program.
For Library Assistant:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Comfort and experience with technology and creative tools.
- Strong communication and instructional skills.
- Enthusiasm for working with teens and members of the public from all backgrounds.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and learn new technologies quickly.
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a library, makerspace, classroom, or other learning environment.
- Knowledge of or experience with makerspace equipment (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.).
- Background in STEAM education, digital literacy, or creative technology
