Job Description

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert in 7th to 9th grade math to serve as the educational backbone of our content development team. This is a 12-month contract role and is great for someone who can review a lesson and say, “This is engaging, this is accurate, and this teaches exactly what we say it does.”
As our SME, you’ll bridge the gap between standards, content, and physical kits, ensuring everything from script to student experience holds up to scrutiny. You’ll work closely with curriculum writers, our kit engineer, and media developers to validate that instruction is sound, hands-on components are meaningful, and the final product delivers on its promise.

Responsibilities:

  • Standards Alignment
    • Review curriculum to ensure all instructional content aligns with national/state standards and internal goals.
    • Maintain alignment tables, vocab lists, and goal trackers across active products.
  • Instructional Accuracy
    • Vet scripts and storyboards for conceptual clarity, instructional logic, and pacing.
    • Identify gaps or inaccuracies, propose stronger instructional techniques or revisions.
  • Kit + Instruction Integration
    • Collaborate with the kit developer to ensure materials directly support the standards and learning objectives.
    • Provide feedback on prototypes and suggest refinements to improve student understanding and usability.
  • Content Partnership
    • Serve as a strategic partner to scriptwriters and editors to ensure that instructional intent is clear and consistent.
    • Join storyboard sessions to support development at every stage.
  • Final QA and Documentation
    • Support final instructional QA for modules.
    • Help finalize vocab terms, instructional goals, and any linked reference materials for site delivery.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of full-time classroom teaching experience in grades 7 – 9, or 5+ years of experience in standards-based curriculum development and/or instructional design
  • Strong understanding of how students learn best, especially when connecting academic concepts to real-world applications.
  • Deep understanding of CCSS national standards and how to interpret them into classroom instruction.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments, particularly with kit designers, script writers, and instructional designers.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback, vetting instructional materials, and pushing for instructional clarity.
  • (Bonus) Experience with content QA, curriculum development, or working with education product teams.
  • (Bonus) Proficient with digital tools (Excel, Airtable, project tools, ChatGPT/AI Tools)
