Job Summary
Provides primary dental care services to clients, including evaluations, treatment, and education.
Role-Specific Primary Essential Duties
• Screens patients to determine the need for dental care, taking patient history as necessary.
• Provides primary dental care services to clients, including evaluations, treatment, and education.
• Performs dental examinations, cleanings, X-rays, and other diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical treatments.
• Establishes and maintains effective communication with the patient and other healthcare providers (both internally and externally) to facilitate continuity of care.
• Participates in formal and informal patient teaching activities and educational outreach programs in collaboration with the dental services team.
• Maintains accurate patient records, chart documentation, and documentation for administrative purposes and reimbursement of services.
Role-Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Talents Required
• Expertise in HIV-related oral and dental health, preferably with practical experience in providing dental care to HIV-affected individuals.
• Excellent face-to-face interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively educate, treat, and counsel clients from diverse educational, social, and economic backgrounds.
• Sensitivity to all areas of diversity, including HIV status, race, ethnicity, ability, age, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
• Knowledge of standard medical/dental office procedures, including specific knowledge of standards, protocols, and ethical guidelines related to the provision of dental care.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially in recording client notes in the electronic medical record system.
• Ability to make important medical care decisions/choices without direct supervision.
Education and Experience Required
• Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) required, with active licensure as a Dentist in the District of Columbia.
• Requires a DEA license and a Controlled Substances license for Washington, DC.
