About the Role:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the nursing department within a healthcare or social assistance facility. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by managing nursing staff, developing policies, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals. The DON leads initiatives to improve clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance while fostering a supportive and efficient work environment. They are accountable for budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation to meet the facility’s operational goals. Ultimately, the Director of Nursing drives the strategic vision for nursing services, aligning clinical practices with organizational objectives and industry standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, patient care standards, and nursing best practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration.
- Certification in Nursing Administration (e.g., Nurse Executive Certification).
- Experience working in a long-term care, acute care, or specialized healthcare setting.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare management software.
- Experience in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance audits.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff performance to maintain high standards of patient care.
- Develop, implement, and update nursing policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and effective patient care delivery.
- Manage staffing schedules, recruitment, and training programs to ensure adequate and competent nursing coverage.
- Oversee budgeting, resource management, and procurement of nursing supplies and equipment.
- Monitor patient care quality metrics and implement improvement plans as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
- Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, administration, patients, and families to address concerns and improve service.
- Lead initiatives for professional development and continuing education for nursing personnel.
- Prepare and present reports on nursing operations, quality indicators, and staffing to senior management.
