Job DescriptionAs an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you will play a crucial role in providing immediate care and support to patients in emergency situations. Your duties will extend beyond basic first aid; you will be responsible for assessing patients' conditions, administering medication, and utilizing advanced medical equipment to stabilize them after they reach the hospital. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to ensure the highest quality care.$10,000 Sign on Bonus
Hours: Full-time - Weekend Package (35% increase incentive)
Friday - Sunday 7:00am - 7:00pm + some on-call

Pay scale ranges from $17.50 - $28.00, depending on role and level of experience and education.

Essential Job Functions, including but not limited to:

  • Provide pre-hospital care for the ill and injured patients through assessment, intervention, and prompt Ambulance transportation according to the protocols established by the Medical Director, and Iowa EMS scope of practice.
  • Assures daily ambulance checks of equipment and inventory, re-stocking, disinfecting, cleaning and maintenance of all ambulance are performed.
  • Maintains ambulances in clean, working order. At each shift, inspects vehicle to ensure that it is ready for service (e.g. brakes, lights, fluids, etc.)
  • Immediately following a run, re-stocks, and disinfects the ambulance and equipment, completes all run reports (with thorough documentation), dispatch records, and charge sheets.
  • Cross trains to Emergency Department.
  • Represents the department and hospital in the community. Participates in public relations activities, including educational programs and providing coverage at community events.
  • Participate in training, drills, and continuing education to maintain and enhance clinical skills.
  • Performs all duties in a safe courteous, confidential and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient.
  • Assists with patient care in the Emergency Department and other hospital units under the paramedic scope of practice.
  • Honors patients’ bill of rights and confidentiality.
  • Participates in emergency response to Code Blue events, Rapid Response requests and provider’s requests.

  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
  • Ability to deal with confidential information.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.
  • All other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements, including but are not limited to:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current State of Iowa EMT-I or AEMT certification.
  • Current State of Iowa Paramedic certification.
  • Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and PHTLS (or within 1 year of hire).
  • Valid and unrestricted and appropriate Iowa Driver License.
  • Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.
  • Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
