Bulk Environmental & Industrial is a fast-growing leading professional transportation and logistics services company providing long-haul transportation, collection, and loading of waste and other materials.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Operations Analyst will gather and analyze operations data for the organization, supporting management and leadership in making informed and objective business and policy decisions. The Operations Analyst will also study our organizational workflows and processes to recommend and implement changes that increase revenue and production.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and monitor core data sources (TMS, dispatch, safety) to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Implement data validation checks and resolve discrepancies by collaborating with Operations, HR, and Accounting teams.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, process documentation, and SOPs for data governance.
- Build, automate, and maintain Power BI dashboards and Excel reports that provide actionable insights on key operational metrics (tractor utilization, driver performance, lane profitability, wait time, fuel efficiency) using the Company’s Data Analytics Tool.
- Design and maintain Excel models using advanced formulas, Power Query, Power Pivot, and VBA/macros.
- Translate complex datasets into clear, visual, and actionable presentations for senior leadership.
- Track, analyze, and report on organizational KPIs (driver headcount, turnover, safety metrics, production per terminal, overtime cost, etc.).
- Provide root-cause analysis for performance gaps and partner with Operations to recommend corrective actions.
- Support quarterly board reporting by supplying clean, validated data and visual analytics.
- Perform lane-level profitability, customer mix, and route optimization analyses.
- Monitor key transportation analytics such as cost per mile, cost per ton, deadhead percentage, and service performance.
- Collaborate with terminal managers and dispatch teams to provide actionable insights that improve efficiency and reduce cost.
- Support special projects such as system integrations, process improvements, and new KPI rollouts.
- Lead small-scale data projects, including data migrations, standardization initiatives, and building new reporting infrastructure.
- Work cross-functionally to identify opportunities to streamline data collection and reduce manual reporting.
- Present findings and recommendations in a clear, business-friendly format to senior leadership and frontline managers.
- Train team members on dashboards, self-service reporting tools, and data interpretation.
- Serve as subject matter expert for Excel, Power BI, and operational data analytics for the organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in statistics, business, data management, operations research, or related field; Master's degree in operations research or related field preferred
- 3-5 years' experience as an operations analyst, in an operations or research analyst role, or in a related position
- Knowledge of transportation, logistics, and fleet operations concepts (e.g., cost per mile, deadhead, utilization).
- Knowledge of data governance and best practices for data integrity.
- Understanding of KPI frameworks and operational performance metrics.
- Advanced Excel skills including Power Query, Power Pivot, DAX, VBA, and macros.
- Proficiency with Power BI (data modeling, DAX measures, dashboard design).
- Ability to work with large, complex datasets from multiple systems (TMS, ERP, payroll).
- Strong data visualization and storytelling skills.
- SQL skills (preferred) for querying and transforming data.
- Ability to independently gather requirements, design reports, and deliver actionable insights.
- Ability to communicate technical data in a non-technical manner.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and adapt to shifting deadlines.
- Ability to think strategically while staying hands-on with detailed data work.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Physical Demands
This position is considered to be mostly sedentary and will require the employee to sit for extended periods of time. It will also require the employee to occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. They may engage in bending, stretching, reaching, and other motions in the course of a working day. They will be engaged in using office equipment and computers. They may engage in lifting supplies and materials up to 20 pounds from time to time. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
Working Conditions
This job is located primarily in an indoor office environment with varying noise levels. There may be varying degrees of temperature. The employee may be interrupted from time to time.
