Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Sr. Quality Manager, the Quality and Food Safety Manager supports consistent supply of safe, quality food ingredients and products to the food industry. This position ensures that products meet company and customer quality and food safety requirements. The Quality and Lab Manager must follow and apply Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements and is a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual. This position will assist with additional assigned tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:

· Work to support consistent supply of safe, quality food ingredients and products.

· Manage/supervise quality/lab technicians, inspect staff work and adjust lab policies and procedures as needed.

· Receive training to understand cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, products used to achieve desired results, and the correct product for each application.

· Ensure staff members comply with all laboratory rules and regulations, including health and safety policies, to guarantee the highest quality of results.

· Comply with federal, state, industry and employer standards and investigate ways to improve procedures.

· Participate in quarterly management reviews and bi-weekly quality team meetings.

· Train, follow, and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices.

· Oversee thorough completion of work orders that involve food safety and quality issues. Work with Plant Manager to resolve.

· Report progress of quality initiatives to Senior Quality Manager.

· Partner with sales/marketing, procurement and support staff as needed to promote company food safety and overall quality.

· Lead the quality document revision process.

· Manage Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) at HFI’s Valley City, ND location.

· Follow up on production floor GMP/Sanitation concerns. (Comprises minimum 25% of daily responsibility.)

· Lead plant audits.

· Lead monthly plant self-inspection audits and ensure they are completed up to and including corrective actions follow-ups.

· Complete training and maintain certifications relevant to position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A minimum of combined education and experience to perform the position as described.

· Food Safety Modernization Act Training and Preventive Controls Qualified Individual to comply with FSMA.

· Familiarity and experience with food safety certifications including GFSI audits.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

· Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to deliver training presentations.

· Self-motivated and goal oriented.

· Detailed-oriented with good follow-through.

· Willingness and desire to accept responsibility and add value to the position.

· Creative and proactive with good problem-solving skills.

· Team player with the ability to work well with others.

· Ability to multi-task and be organized.

· Occasional travel may be required.
