Join Resource Renew as a Full-Time Maintenance Millwright and immerse yourself in a dynamic role that champions innovation and ingenuity. In this position, you will engage in a variety of hands-on tasks that include conducting routine inspections, troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing preventative maintenance on a range of equipment within our wastewater, biosolids, conveyance and solid waste facilities. You'll collaborate with skilled operators and trades professionals committed to safety, operational excellence and environmental stewardship. The typical schedule for this role will be Monday through Friday day shift, providing a consistent routine that allows for a balanced work-life dynamic.

Resource Renew, the brand of Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD), is committed to preventing pollution and protecting the environment, including the region's most precious resource - Lake Superior. Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, Resource Renew provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota. Our facilities include a main wastewater treatment plant, multiple pump stations, and solid waste collection sites of varied types.

WHAT DOES A MAINTENANCE MILLWRIGHT DO?

  • Provides maintenance support on wastewater and solid waste industrial equipment used by the District
  • Analyzes and determines root cause failures on equipment to improve reliability and longevity
  • Troubleshoots and makes recommendations on processes, equipment and spare parts as well as materials, hardware and after job completion
  • Assists in planning, developing and executing maintenance and capital projects
  • Utilizes computerized District systems such as SharePoint and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to assist with performing maintenance activities
  • Collaborates with operations for the scheduling of maintenance activities including troubleshooting operational equipment to optimize efficiency, locking out equipment and minimizing equipment downtime
  • Assists in unloading and receiving inventory and items for District projects
  • Performs cleaning duties and other related projects to maintain clean and orderly conditions in the District facilities
  • Maintains a constant awareness of safe work practices; monitors compliance with District safety program to complete work without accidents or injuries

A TYPICAL SKILLSET FOR THE ROLE IS:

  • Knowledge of standard mechanical maintenance practices, methods and materials
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, hydraulics, plumbing pipefittings, hydronic and mechanical theory
  • Knowledge of lubrication and the ability to apply it to District equipment using manufactures' recommendations as a base line
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation, maintenance and installation of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, turbines, gauges, motors, generators, industrial and mechanical equipment and machinery related to a wastewater treatment plant
  • Ability to implement safe work practices and procedures including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, 70E and energy control procedures
  • Ability to response to emergency conditions and develop appropriate course of action
  • Use computerized systems for plant operations, historical date tracking maintenance management systems, troubleshoot mechanical equipment, and prepare routine reports from records in EAM
  • Ability to lay out, fabricate, weld and perform light machining tooling
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans, blueprints, owner manuals and specifications
  • Ability to properly rig, lift, and move critical equipment
  • Ability to fuse high density polyethylene (HDPE) piping and Hot tap pressurized pipe systems
  • Ability to operate, inspect, and maintain portable pumps, generators, welding and cutting equipment, overhead and mobile cranes, heavy equipment, forklifts, aerials lift platforms and scaffolding
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with internal external stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Possess an associate's degree in industrial maintenance or related field
  • Two years of experience working in industrial maintenance
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possess a valid driver's license

SELECTION PROCESS & TESTING INFORMATION

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications. Those who meet the minimum qualifications will be given an examination, which may consist of a written exam, a presentation, a hands-on test or an oral exam. Final selection will include a panel interview. Passing the examinations and interviews will require a score of 70% or higher.
