Job Description

As a Pump Mechanic, you will be responsible for disassembling, troubleshooting, and reassembling various types of motor-driven pumps and blowers. You will effectively clean and prepare mechanical/electrical components for inspection using typical shop equipment, such as sandblasters, cabinet blasters, dip tanks, and steam wash pits. You will examine parts for defects, perform detailed mechanical and visual inspections to determine the root cause of failure, document all relevant ‘As-Found’ data, and recommend disposition on job cards and Customer spec sheets. You will also perform service calls for emergency breakdowns, oversee lifting/rigging of equipment weighing upwards of 25 tons, lead and mentor less experienced mechanics, balance rotating assemblies, perform hydrostatic pressure testing on refurbished pumps, and perform criteria acceptance testing on close-coupled pump motors and submersible pump motors.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, troubleshoot, and reassemble various types of motor-driven pumps and blowers.
  • Clean and prepare mechanical/electrical components for inspection using typical shop equipment.
  • Examine parts for defects such as eccentricities, rubs, wear, and excessive damage.
  • Perform detailed mechanical and visual inspections to determine the root cause of failure.
  • Document all relevant ‘As-Found’ data on applicable forms.
  • Recommend disposition on job cards and Customer spec sheets.
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns, if necessary.
  • Safely oversee lifting/rigging of equipment weighing upwards of 25 tons.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced mechanics throughout each phase of the repair process.
  • Balance rotating assemblies to an industry standard of 4W/N.
  • Utilize all shop balancing equipment.
  • Perform hydrostatic pressure testing on refurbished pumps.
  • Perform criteria acceptance testing on close-coupled pump motors and submersible pump motors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in industrial mechanical repair
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Customer service oriented
  • Excellent driving record
  • Ability to work overtime (nights/weekends)
  • Experience with vibration analysis and/or laser alignment is a plus

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $29.00/hr.
