Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the acute care setting. Communicates with nurses/team leaders/coworkers, as appropriate about the patient’s clinical condition. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition. Additionally, is able to perform general Patient Care Technician duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Education and Qualification Requirements High School Diploma or GED
Successful completion of Certified Nurse Assistant Program Preferred.
Maintains current Nursing Assistant Certificate in the state of Tennessee.
Complete CPR within three (3) months and maintains CPR.
Complete telemetry training within three (3) months of hire.
Complete phlebotomy training within three (3) months of hire.

1.8 Participates effectively in Performance Improvement activities as requested or needed
1.9 Maintains medical terminology familiarity
1.10 Maintains computer skills necessary for the job
1.11 Completes annual education requirements prior to anniversary date
1.12 Able to move 20lbs of force frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Also, regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, talk, see, hear and use hands & fingers
1.13 Demonstrates a consistently positive attitude and ability to accommodate change
1.14 Performs all other duties not listed in job description but as requested by supervisor and/or administration
1.15 Accepts responsibility for & follows the organizations “Guidelines for Employees” handbook and all policies and procedures.
Demonstrates Job Specific Competencies in the Following Areas
2.1 Consistently reports to supervising nurses on the patient’s general appearance, behavior and response to basic care
2.2 Demonstrates age-specific care for patient ambulation, transfer techniques, and feeding needs.
2.3 Demonstrates age-specific care obtaining and documenting temperature, pulse, respirations, height, weight, and blood pressure
2.4 Demonstrates appropriate documentation via electronic medical record and paper chart per unit requirements
2.5 Demonstrates standard procedures for checking, turning and repositioning bedfast and/or incontinent patients based on age-specific care plan and as needed.
2.6 Demonstrates ability to recognize and care for patients with suspected physical abuse or sexual assault per established hospital policy
2.7 Assists with nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting, feeding, distributing snacks and recording intake and output
2.8 Assists with elimination needs by offering bedpans/urinals, ensuring incontinent patients
Demonstrates Basic Nursing Competencies in the Following Areas
3.1 Demonstrates standard procedures for all basic care functions such as bedmaking, toileting, oral care, hair and nail care, bathing, and comfort measures.
3.2 Promotes skin integrity by assisting patient with good skin care techniques
3.3 Demonstrates ability to adequately prioritize patient care
3.4 Complete procedures for admissions, transfers, discharges, expirations, and pre and post operative procedures
3.5 Provides a safe secure environment by providing a clean, clutter-free patient area, ensuring call lights are in reach, and responding appropriately to emergency situations
3.6 Demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices such as handwashing and standard precautions as well as others isolation precautions
