ABOUT US

The Hamilton Education Foundation (HEF) is a nonprofit organization established in June 1991 by friends and supporters of the Hamilton School District for the purpose of generating financial support for programs and projects that enhance, extend and enrich educational opportunities offered to the students and staff in the Hamilton School District community.

With the generous backing and support of individuals, businesses, and organizations, the Foundation has funded more than $2.5 million in projects and programs that offer exciting and challenging opportunities. They include educational, cultural, and academic achievement grants for students, and for teachers enrichment workshops or seminars, projects that promote involvement with the community, and recognition for special accomplishments.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Director is responsible for the enhancement of the Hamilton Education Foundation's image. As such, serving as both an active and visible community leader, this role requires working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations. It is critical that the Executive Director embodies the Hamilton Education Foundation’s qualities and characteristics, allowing them to serve as the face of the foundation, a bright light to the community, and a servant leader to the educator and student bodies.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. The primary accountability and effort allotments are as follows:

Business Development and Event Management (70%)

  • Solicit private support from businesses and families

  • Visit new and existing businesses to build relationships

  • Manage fundraising efforts and events

  • Manage and develop marketing materials to promote the Foundation and its events

  • Oversee the creation of the annual report with the marketing committee

  • Oversee trustee recruitment

Budget and Finance (20%)

  • Provide financial oversight of the foundation

  • Prepare annual budget with the treasurer

  • Maintain foundation taxes and audit status

  • Oversee and run scholarship committee meetings

  • Manage compliance with all federal and state regulations

Administration (10%)

  • Understand the foundation’s bylaws and amendments

  • Leadership of the foundation in short- and long-range planning

  • Lead and manage the grant application and approval process

  • Partner with the board chair on board meeting planning

  • Keep up-to-date license and insurance renewal

  • Maintain the day-to-day operations of the foundation

  • Oversee the foundation sub-committees

EXPERIENCE

Personal Characteristics and Skills Needed

  • Communicates and works well with an active board membership

  • Must be effective at delegation

  • Maintains high ethical and confidentiality standards

  • Keeps a positive attitude while being flexible

  • Maintains cooperative professional relationships with donors, board members and the community in general

  • Is highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • 2+ years of senior non-profit management experience and/or project management or event planner experience.

  • Preferred experience with fundraising software such as One Cause or Give Smart.

  • Flexibility of availability is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Residency in the Hamilton School District is preferred.

  • Current educators within the district constitutes a conflict of interest and are not eligible for this position

HOURS

The Executive Director position is a part-time exempt paid position; however, hours per week will vary significantly. Yearly, the average hours are 20 hours per week. There will be weeks with minimal hours; however, certain weeks, especially around HEF events, may require up to 40 hours. The Executive Director will work independently, primarily out of his/her own home, but will attend meetings and events at multiple locations in the local area.

SALARY

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
