Altman Plants is a nationwide greenhouse company producing ornamental plants for retail garden centers. The company has a network of distribution centers around the country and manages its own fleet and drivers making direct store deliveries to its customers. The Claims Specialist works independently, performs highly skilled claims evaluation work, and exercises a high level or discretion to manage the claims process, including verifying and reviewing coverage, analyzing claims data to reduce risk, and minimize financial exposure to the company. This position manages Property, Liability and Auto claims, and may handle Fiduciary, Crime, Professional, and Miscellaneous claims as requested. This position reports to the Fleet and DOT Compliance Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze claims data to identify and present opportunities to reduce risk and minimize financial exposure.
- Analyze and provide feedback on complex claims to all relevant executives.
- Negotiate claims and settlements in coordination with the management team.
- Coordinate and manage the entire claims process from receipt to close of the claim.
- Manage relationships with adjusters and insurance carriers, as well as internal customers.
- Provide authoritative advice and counsel the company on the interpretation and application of claims procedures and potential improvements to claims process design and implementation.
- Understand, administer and implement all federal, state and client rules, regulations and laws pertaining to claim disputes and resolution.
- File claims within 24 hours of receipt.
- Ensure that all necessary information and documentation is provided for every claim.
- Verify coverage and provide coverage denial rebuttals where appropriate.
- Manage and maintain standardized claim reporting and claim logs.
- Deliver formal quarterly and/or semi-annual claim reviews as needed.
- Monthly claims follow up and file updating.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years prior experience in a similar role
- Analytical thinking skills are needed in order to properly evaluate complex claims
- Superior communication skills are essential for success in this role
- Ability to work autonomously and make critical decisions under minimal supervision
- A strong attention to detail is necessary as claims must be carefully reviewed for all proper documents and policies
- Solid writing skills are an asset as you will be responsible for creating claim reports
- Skill and experience with negotiations, including occasionally interactions with hostile individuals in emotionally charged setting
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset
- Sound computer skills or the ability to quickly learn new software
- A strong work ethic and time management skills in order to efficiently handle a large caseload
- Dependability and punctuality are mandatory. Must be able to work Monday through Friday. There may be some extended work hours on an as needed basis. Work will be performed in an office setting. Must have a professional demeanor and appearance. Must observe and comply with all company policies and safety practices.

You must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. You will also be required to use a computer and have a working knowledge of data entry and accounting functions necessary for this position.

6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. OT as needed / required.
