Job Details
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
1.Review design drawings for project requirements and provide direction on fabrication preferences.
2.Directs outside detailers to ensure company standards are followed.
3.BIM coordination as needed on projects.
4.Assist with detailer setup at project start to ensure correct templates are used.
5.Manage and supervise outside detailers.
6.Track detailing schedules.
oMaintain & update Detailing Tracking log per project
oMaintain & update Project Drawing log
7.Review fabrication drawings for accuracy and presentation.
8.Review fabrication drawings to contract design drawings
9.Assist with in-house revisions for fabrication releases.
10.Help troubleshoot nc, dxf, kss files with Programmer and Project Administrator to ensure no errors with processing of import.
11.Review erection drawings for accuracy and presentation.
12.Controls models for all projects.
13.Monitor procedures to assure drawing standards are maintained to improve shop production and quality.
14.Assist with Project Management as needed.
15.Tekla training as needed.
oEnsure all like parts/lengths are using same piece marks
16.Assist with programming as needed.
17.Coordinate with detailer to ensure all items are included in the shop drawings
18.Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure all drawings are sent to Erector in a timely manner
19.Notify Erector of reasoning detailing notes weren’t included (if any)
20.Review architectural drawings; if they call for areas being ground smooth, ensure that is included in erection drawings and noted at the specific area it applies.
oCreate a drawing that shows members and AESS that require to be ground smooth
21.Ensure Detailers issue Erection Drawing within 3-days of last fab release
22.Review all final shop drawings to assure all approval comments were incorporated prior to release to production
You Have (Minimum Qualifications)
1. 5–10 years of related experience as a BIM/Detailing Manager (or Lead/Chief Detailer) in the structural steel industry.
2. Thorough knowledge of fabrication and erection standards/procedures and a proven record managing detailers/checkers.
3. Strong understanding of design conformability and constructability across commercial/industrial building types.
4. Working knowledge of AISC standards and AWS structural welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1) and how they impact detailing, welding symbols, and inspection criteria.
5. Proficiency with 3D steel detailing and drawing production workflows; Tekla Structures experience is a plus (industry‑standard BIM for steel modeling, automated drawings, BOMs, and CNC data).
6. Demonstrated ability to coordinate with engineers of record, connection engineers, fabricators, and erectors through RFIs/submittals and change management.
7. Excellent planning, communication, and team‑leadership skills; disciplined document control and revision practices.
