ABOUT THE ROLE
If you know your way around trucks, trailers, or mechanical systems, this is how you break into a specialized field that most technicians never get access to.
As a Technician Trainee – Fuel Systems (Level 1), you’ll work alongside certified inspectors learning Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE) testing, an advanced, in-demand method for evaluating compressed natural gas and hydrogen storage systems. The Level 1 designation is the defined entry point into a structured certification pathway. This role is built for someone who wants to grow.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Assist with visual inspections and setup of MAE test equipment under a certified Level 2 or Level 3 technician
- Collect and record test data, ensuring compliance with established inspection procedures
- Troubleshoot and repair Quantum fuel systems at our Midland, Texas facility.
- Conduct maintenance on customer vehicles, trailers, and alternative-fuel systems
- Write service reports and contribute to technical documentation
- Travel domestically for inspections and field service
YOUR BACKGROUND FITS IF YOU’VE WORKED IN
- Truck, trailer, or heavy equipment repair
- Industrial maintenance or assembly
- Automotive or fleet service technology
- Field service or installation work
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; ASE certification or technical school preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort following technical procedures and documentation
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record; Class A CDL with air brake endorsement (or ability to obtain one)
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office basics: Outlook, Excel, Word
- Fluent in English, written and verbal
- Able to travel and work in varying field conditions
- Able to pass the Texas RRC CNG Service Installation exam (we’ll support your prep)
Bonus: Experience with high-pressure gas systems or an existing TRRC CNG certification will set you apart.
Additional Preferred
- Associates degree in an engineering field, or equivalent industry. NDT (Non Destructive Testing) experience accepted.
- Basic understanding of nondestructive testing principles and acoustic emission.
- Certification: MAE Level 1 (per ASNT, ISO 9712, or equivalent) preferred but not required, training will be provided.
- Candidate lives close to the worksite (Midland / Odessa, Texas area).
Physical Requirements
This position involves both office and field work. Duties may include working from heights, standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, working in elevated spaces. Frequent use of hands is required for handling tools, sensors, and computer equipment. Vision requirements include color vision, close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and traveling to customer sites domestically.
A post-offer, pre-employment color vision screening will be conducted.
