JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for directing and providing speech-language evaluation, treatment, education, and consultation for the program to improve the health and well-being of patient relatives through the prevention and treatment of disease, disability, and injury. The position requires the ability to work with great autonomy, balance activities, organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks, meet deadlines, analyze organizational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs professional work requiring applying knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of speech-language pathology to treat or prevent disability or disease.
• Conducts, plans, and coordinates all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services.
• Responsible for a high degree of professional competence in conducting evaluations with the patients and appropriate family members and/or friends. Selects, administers, and interprets the diagnostic test necessary to detect and evaluate types of speech-language, voice, fluency, cognitive, and/or swallowing disorders.
Treatment objectives can be complex, and procedures involve the application of highly specialized skills and knowledge.
• Utilizes all diagnostic and evaluative procedures and techniques consistent with contemporary speech-language pathology practice.
• Supervises assistants and technicians, coordinating care appropriately. Provides and assures quality patient care.
• Provides consultation to medical or clinical staff on matters pertaining to speech-language pathology and/or patient progress. Incumbent exercises tact, good judgment, and persuasiveness when dealing with these individuals.
• Assists the supervisor and staff in all aspects of rehabilitation services, administrative tasks, and projects as assigned.
• The incumbent will participate in research activities pertinent to speech-language pathology.
• Demonstrates skill in the use of personal computers and a variety of job-related software applications. Appropriately utilizes and manages the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Performs quality assurance/performance improvement (QAPI) activities and chart reviews required.
• Provides formal and informal education and in-services to members of the medical staff, therapy, and others as requested. Provides training for therapy students and technicians.
• Mentor students on chart review, presentations, and treatment techniques.




QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Relevant Experience: Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience, or bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of progressively responsible relevant experience. The experience required for supervisory/management positions will be inclusive of at least three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

This is a senior professional and/or management position that requires post-secondary education and/or considerable experience or a clinical degree requiring a clinical rotation/internship. Individuals must have applicable education and/or experience applying principles, concepts, and methodology of a professional or administrative occupation to permit the independent performance of recurring assignments or carrying out difficult/complex assignments, operations, and procedures; or applicable education and/or experience applying a wide range of technical methods, principles, and practices similar to a narrow area of a professional field such as the design and planning of difficult, but well-precedented projects.


PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Advanced Board Certification.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Five (5) years experience in a clinical setting.
