Overview for Speech Language Pathologist
Winston Staffing has a contract assignment available for an experienced Speech Language Pathologist at a hospital in Patchogue, LI. This is a Mon to Fri day time position that will last for approximately 13 weeks. The ideal candidate will have at least one year's experience in an acute care setting, working with adults. Conditions the SLP will be diagnosing/treating include strokes, trauma, deconditioning and pneumonia.
Responsibilities for the Speech Language Pathologist
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function in acute care patients.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation findings and physician orders.
- Provide skilled therapeutic interventions for conditions such as dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, and cognitive deficits.
- Perform bedside swallow evaluations and instrumental assessments (e.g., Modified Barium Swallow Studies, FEES) as appropriate.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, occupational therapists, and physical therapists to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment strategies.
- Document evaluations, treatment sessions, and patient progress in accordance with regulatory and facility guidelines.
- Participate in discharge planning, including recommendations for continued therapy or services.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
- Stay current with best practices, research, and continuing education in speech-language pathology.
Experience and qualifications required for Speech Language Pathologist
- MBS proficiency Required
- Epic knowledgeable
- Acute Care Experience preferred
- NYS License and Certificate of Clinical Competence
- Experience treating patients with dysphagia
