ABOUT THIS ROLE:

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a formal compliance strategy and program at the credit union. Establishes compliance-related policies and procedures for the organization ensuring adherence to credit union/banking regulations and standards. Directs the activities of the compliance team to ensure activities align with the goals and objectives of the department and credit union. Recommends and/or implements best practices that align with the credit union's risk appetite. Serves as a subject matter expert on regulatory matters and provides guidance to management or business lines to ensure compliance.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  1. Directs the daily operations of the compliance team by providing ongoing supervision, coaching, guidance, and training. Oversees performance management of the compliance staff, including but not limited to conducting reviews, recommending corrective action, and other employment actions. Actively participates in the employee engagement process to ensure a motivated staff. Participates in the interviewing process for and recommends the hiring of compliance staff.
  2. Conducts reviews and provides guidance to all Credit Union on all compliance related questions and issues, including but not limited to review of credit card and marketing materials, credit union offerings, and various disclosures.
  3. Conducts high-level research of regulatory-related matters (i.e., practices, regulation updates, etc.), communicates regulatory changes to business lines, and assists in the tracking and implementation of corrective action.
  4. Implements and maintains updated regulatory and compliance dashboards along with corrective action item report to provide to CRO and GC for reporting purposes.
  5. Develops and executes on the credit union's compliance strategy to align with growth plans and risk tolerance/appetite.
  6. Manages all examinations and/or internal/external compliance audits and functions as a liaison with any examiners/auditors. Delegates activities to the compliance team. Ensures that issues identified in the audit process are adequately addressed with internal, external and NCUA auditors. Monitors corrective action of any compliance deficiencies identified in regulatory reports of examination and assists business line managers in developing a response to said findings or deficiencies.
  7. Serves as s subject matter expert on regulations impacting the credit union and provides guidance to management or business lines to ensure understanding of compliance requirements.
  8. Cooperate as an integral team member of the Risk Department working with BSA, Legal, Information Security, Government Affairs, among others.
  9. Develops and executes a compliance-related training program for all credit union staff and senior management utilizing computer and web-based technologies, as well as live seminars. Oversees the current library of compliance resources and provides informational assistance as requested.
  10. Participates in new product development and provides input regarding compliance concerns relevant to proposed and current products and services offered by the credit union.
  11. Ensures all advertising and marketing materials comply with state and federal regulations and requirements.
  12. Supervises the annual regulatory filing for HMDA and owns the responsibility for certifying the completeness and accuracy of the data submitted.
  13. Performs other related compliance and administrative duties as assigned by SVP, Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related field required.

Experience/Skills/Knowledge:

  1. 5 to 7 years' experience required in a financial institution in a regulatory compliance role(s). Certified Compliance Officer or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager a plus. 2+ years' experience leading and managing a team is required.
  2. Excellent analytical ability and ability to conduct thorough research, interpret and understand all Credit Union and CFPB related laws and regulations, and provide workable recommendations and solutions to problems required.
  3. Excellent verbal, written, telephone and interpersonal communication skills required.
  4. Strong knowledge of, and practical experience with, credit union or other financial institution operating areas, functions, products and services.
  5. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required. Must be detail-oriented and a self-starter who is able to work both independently and as part of a team equally well.
  6. Must have a strong service orientation in alignment with the credit union's mission and core values.
  7. Must have the ability to handle simultaneously, multiple tasks and changing priorities in an efficient and effective manner.
  8. Must have the ability to work with all levels of management, credit union staff, and members.
  9. Must have the ability to create and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization for training or reporting purposes.
  10. Must be PC proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet as well as other spreadsheets and financial analysis programs.
  11. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. (e.g. file boxes, supplies, etc.)
