Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:45 AM – 5:15 PM | 30-minute lunch
Dress Code: Jeans and collared shirt with comfortable shoes (no hats)
Parking: Free, on-site parking availableAbout the Mailroom Services Specialist RoleWe are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Mailroom Services Specialist to support student and faculty mail operations at Tufts University. This on-site position plays a key role in the daily receipt, processing, and distribution of mail and packages. It's a fast-paced, physical job that requires excellent customer service skills, strong organization, and the ability to stay on your feet throughout the shift.This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on environment and takes pride in providing prompt, accurate service to the university community.Key Responsibilities for the Mailroom Services Specialist
- Receive, sort, check in, and distribute student mail and packages
- Maintain tracking systems and ensure timely delivery during peak periods
- Provide front-line customer service to students, staff, and faculty
- Support general mailroom functions including lifting, organizing, and scanning
- Maintain a clean and efficient work environment
- Perform walking routes within the mailroom and between buildings as needed
- For permanent hires: provide courier services to faculty; a valid driver’s license is preferred
- Follow all safety, handling, and privacy procedures
Qualifications for the Mailroom Services Specialist
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years of experience in a mailroom, shipping/receiving, clerical, or customer-facing role preferred
- Basic computer skills and comfort using tracking/logistics software
- Ability to lift and carry packages up to 50 lbs. with proper support as needed
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Positive attitude and willingness to support various tasks throughout the day
- Valid driver’s license preferred for long-term employment opportunities
Work Environment for the Mailroom Services Specialist
- On-site, physically active role requiring extended standing and walking
- Work may include bending, lifting, and navigating between buildings
- Office and mailroom setting with standard lighting, ventilation, and moderate noise
- Use of office and mailing equipment (scanners, computers, etc.)
