Job Description - Group Teacher

INTRODUCTION:

The group teacher shall be in charge of planning and implementing a daily program for a designated group of children. The position may be part time or full time, temporary or regular. The group teacher is hired by and responsible to the Executive Director. The teacher’s input shall be considered for program planning and evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Early Childhood Education preferred or Associates of Science degree or Child Development Associate, plus one year experience in a child care program.
  • Ability to relate positively to children, parents and staff.
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROGRAM

  • Responsible for teaching a group of children daily.
  • Plan and execute a daily program geared toward the growth and development of individual children [including field trips and special events for the group] in accordance with County North Children's Center, Inc. philosophies.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, medication log, incident log and other required forms designated by the executive staff person.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, clean and visually attractive environment for children.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, comfort and safety of all children.
  • Awareness of children’s health on a daily basis and conduct and document a daily health check on each child.
  • Daily meal and nap time supervision.
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating children’s progress on an ongoing basis to include but not limited to parent conferences. Maintain updated Development Checklists and notify office of any red flags or delays.
  • Communicate program and individual children’s needs to an executive staff person.
  • Participate in special meetings regarding special needs of individual children as needed.
  • May provide orientation and supervision of new teachers assigned to group.
  • Must be familiar with all information in the parent handbook and follow through with all policies written therein.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the personnel policies, program policies and procedures, procedures for mandated reporters and emergency procedures as well as OCFS regulations.
  • Additional duties or projects designated by an executive staff person.

PARENTS

  • Maintain positive communication with parents including: ongoing daily rapport, preparing group activity reports, contributing to newsletter, and planning parent conferences in conjunction with child evaluations.

PROFESSIONAL:

  • Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings, typically held each quarter.
  • Attend conferences, workshops and seminars for professional growth. Responsible for 15 hours in the first 6 months of employment. The five-hour Health and Safety training must be completed with in the first 30 days of employment (this counted towards the 15 needed to be completed).
