Role Overview

The Behavioral Health RN provides direct nursing care to adult behavioral health patients in an inpatient setting, ensuring safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care. The nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support stabilization, treatment planning, and successful discharge for individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing reassessments of behavioral health patients.

• Identify patient needs and implement appropriate nursing interventions.

• Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and unit policies.

• Participate in development, implementation, and updating of individualized treatment plans.

• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record.

• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other team members to support patient goals.

• Promote a safe, therapeutic environment and manage crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.

• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, medications, and discharge plans.

Must-Haves

• Graduate of a Registered Nursing program.

• Current BCLS certification.

• Current Iowa RN license or compact state RN license with eligibility to practice in Iowa.
