Role Overview
The Behavioral Health RN provides direct nursing care to adult behavioral health patients in an inpatient setting, ensuring safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care. The nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support stabilization, treatment planning, and successful discharge for individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions.
Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing reassessments of behavioral health patients.

Identify patient needs and implement appropriate nursing interventions.

Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and unit policies.

Participate in development, implementation, and updating of individualized treatment plans.

Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record.

Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other team members to support patient goals.

Promote a safe, therapeutic environment and manage crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.

Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, medications, and discharge plans.
Must-Haves

Graduate of a Registered Nursing program.

Current BCLS certification.

Current Iowa RN license or compact state RN license with eligibility to practice in Iowa.
