Consolidated Medical Travel is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California.

Unit Profile – Medical/Surgical Telemetry (MST)
Beds: 32 (all private rooms)
Telemetry: GE monitors; RNs must read & interpret all cardiac rhythms.
Staffing & Ratios
- RN : Patient Ratios:
- Telemetry: 1:4
- Med-Surg: 1:5
- Mixed team (MS + Tele): 1:4
- CNAs: Assigned based on census
- Charge Structure:
- House Supervisor on-site 24/7
- Nurse Manager during business hours
- Each shift includes Nurse Shift Manager + Charge Nurse OR Break Nurse
- If no Nurse Shift Manager: Charge Nurse + Break Nurse
- Charge RN may take an assignment only if needed (not the norm)
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
Patient Population
- Acute & chronic medical conditions
- Cardiac telemetry patients
- Stroke patients
- COVID patients
- Forensic patients
- Post-op (potential)
- Patients on non-titrating drips
Drips
- No titration required
- Common set-rate drips:
- Cardizem
- Amiodarone
- Heparin
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Cerner experience preferred
Respiratory / Equipment
- CPAP/BiPAP (with RT & MD order)
- No ventilators
Shifts & Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts:
- 0700–1930
- 1900–0730
- Shift huddle at 0700 and 1900
- Self-scheduling: Not explicitly stated
- Weekend requirement:
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Nights: Fri/Sat
- Days: Sat/Sun
- Holiday requirement:
- 1 major + 1 minor
Call / Standby
- No formal call
- May be placed on standby for low census
- If called in from standby → 30-minute response time
Floating Expectations
Travelers float first. Possible float locations:
- Mercy Downtown (approx. 6.5 miles away)
- Any MS/MST unit
- ICU (for MST-level patients only)
- ER (for MST holds)
Scrub Color / Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
- Undershirts: navy, white, or black
- Scrub jackets: navy only
- No hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets
