JUVENILE CASE MANAGER / JP2 CLERK — PART-TIME
Department: Burnet County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 Reports To: Justice of the Peace
Works Under the Direction of: Justice of the Peace and Chief Clerk


The Juvenile Case Manager / JP2 Clerk provides case management, administrative, and clerical
support for the Burnet County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 Court, with primary responsibilities
involving Truancy and Juvenile Diversion. The position works closely with Burnet CISD
schools, students, parents, the Burnet County Attorney’s Office, and community resources
to monitor attendance, coordinate truancy referrals, prepare and maintain cases, monitor
compliance, and assist with court proceedings. The position also performs JP2 Clerk duties,
including processing citations, complaints, petitions, payments, and court records; assisting the
public; and providing general support to the Court. Duties are performed with confidentiality,
professionalism, accuracy, and independent judgment under the direction of the Justice of the Peace and Chief Clerk.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Work closely with Burnet CISD schools, school officials, students, and parents to address and
prevent truancy and improve school attendance.
2. Develop, implement, and monitor Truancy Prevention Plans and other appropriate
interventions for students referred to the program.
3. Monitor student attendance through available school attendance systems, including
Skyward, and maintain communication with school officials regarding attendance,
compliance, and student progress.
4. Conduct school visits and, when appropriate and authorized, home visits to meet with students
and/or parents regarding attendance, compliance, available resources, and barriers to
regular school attendance.
5. Work with schools, students, parents, and community organizations to identify and
coordinate educational, family, transportation, social service, and other available
resources that may assist students in successfully attending school and complying with program or
court requirements.
6. Receive truancy referrals from Burnet CISD schools; forward appropriate cases to
the Burnet County Attorney’s Office for prosecutorial review.
7. Upon approval by the prosecutor, complete the truancy intake process, enter cases into
Odyssey, scan and upload documentation, and create and maintain accurate electronic
and/or physical case files.

8. Prepare petitions, complaints, motions, orders, notices, and other documents necessary
for the processing and management of truancy cases.

9. Schedule, coordinate, prepare for, and attend Truancy Court hearings and
other proceedings involving truant conduct cases.
10. Monitor all active Truant Conduct and Juvenile Diversion cases for compliance with court
orders, diversion agreements, attendance requirements, deadlines, and other conditions.

11. Assist with the intake, processing, documentation, and monitoring of Juvenile Diversion
cases handled by the Justice Court.
12. Enter and maintain citations, complaints, petitions, case notes, compliance information, and
other case-related information in Odyssey and other applicable systems.
13. Document communications and case activity, including telephone calls, emails, office
visits, school contacts, meetings, compliance updates, and other relevant interactions
involving Truancy and Juvenile Diversion cases.
14. Provide general clerical and administrative support to the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2
office as needed.
15. Process traffic and other Justice Court citations by accurately entering case information into
Odyssey, scanning and uploading citations and supporting documents, and
maintaining court records.
16. Assist members of the public in person, by telephone, and through
electronic communication regarding court procedures, case information, payment options, required
forms, and other matters within the authority of the Clerk's office.
17. Serve as a liaison between defendants, attorneys, school officials, parents, students, the
public, and the Court while maintaining judicial neutrality and appropriate professional
boundaries.

18. Receive and process court payments; accurately issue receipts and maintain appropriate
financial records in accordance with office procedures.
19. Assist with preparation of daily financial transactions and deposits and deliver deposits
and related documentation to the Burnet County Treasurer's Office as required.
20. Attend and assist with court proceedings as directed by the Justice of the Peace or Chief
Clerk.
21. Maintain the confidentiality of juvenile records, court information, and other confidential
or sensitive information encountered in the performance of assigned duties.
22. Exercise sound independent judgment when handling routine matters and refer legal
questions, unusual circumstances, policy issues, and administrative concerns to the
Justice of the Peace or Chief Clerk as appropriate.
23. Maintain professional conduct consistent with the integrity and impartiality of the
judiciary and observe applicable ethical standards, including standards applicable to court
personnel and the principles expressed in the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct.
24. Maintain regular and punctual attendance and perform assigned duties reliably and
efficiently.
25. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Justice of the Peace or Chief Clerk.
