Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An opportunity is available for a Special Education Teacher specializing in autism support at the middle and high school levels, working with Grades 8 and 9. This position involves teaching a self-contained transition class designed for high-functioning students with autism. The role is based in a school setting with typical hours from 7:10 AM to 2:40 PM, Monday through Friday, during the normal school year (NSY). This contract position offers the chance to work with a small, focused group of students in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction in social studies, math, social skills, and English language arts to students in a self-contained setting.
- Support the development of social skills and address behavioral needs through individualized strategies.
- Manage a classroom of up to eight students, with typically six students enrolled.
- Collaborate with two or more paraprofessionals to provide comprehensive classroom support.
- Utilize a block schedule including five instructional blocks and one planning block lasting 45-70 minutes.
- Oversee transition programming aimed at supporting student independence and academic growth.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teaching Certification required; emergency certification is not accepted.
- Prior experience working with students on the autism spectrum is preferred but new graduates with relevant training are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to foster a positive and supportive classroom environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
