TITLE: LINE MAINTENANCE WORKER
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to assist in the construction, maintenance, and cleanliness of the City’s wastewater lines and lift stations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Installs new sewer lines; installs new valves for transfer pumps.
- Sprays waterproofing and epoxy coating inside manholes; evaluates manholes; finds and raises manholes to ground level; sets up bypass pump and lines for manhole repairs; manually cuts roots from manholes.
- Repairs pumps.
- Measures and finds buried sewer lines for repair.
- Sets up safety shields in trenches.
- Rehabilitates lawns and fields after repairs.
- Hauls dirt and rock to worksite.
- Uses safety gas meter for manhole work; fills out OSHA confined space permits; sets up ventilation fans when necessary.
- Checks pump stations and performs minor electrical work; installs backflow preventers.
- Mows grass at pump stations.
- Ensures cleanliness of shop work area.
- Stocks and maintains supplies in trucks for repairs.
- Operates tripod, all-purpose saw, ventilator, pickup truck, pole truck, shovel, dump truck, vactor truck, electric saw, electric eel, jackhammer, tiller, hammer drill, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED preferred; one year of experience in sewer line construction and maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver’s license.
