Title: Bookkeeper
Location: Chicago, IL
Assignment Type: 3- month contract with potential for conversion
Compensation: 65-75k annually
Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
Position Overview
Our client company is seeking an Accounting Manager / Bookkeeper to take full ownership of the company’s day-to-day accounting operations. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to the company’s leadership team, including the President/COO and CEO.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup-like, fast-paced environment and is comfortable building structure within a growing organization. The right candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and excited about creating and improving accounting processes from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable (Primary Focus)
- Manage full-cycle AR processes, including invoicing, collections, and account reconciliation
- Drive collections efforts (ACH, Net 30 terms) to bring accounts current
- Develop and implement AR processes and reporting to improve cash flow
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices and payments
- Manage remittance tracking and match payments to invoices
- Centralize and organize incoming mail/email related to AP
General Accounting
- Perform bank and account reconciliations
- Maintain accurate financial records in Zoho Books and other systems
- Prepare and deliver weekly financial reporting to leadership
Payroll
- Coordinate payroll processing (currently outsourced)
- Assist with potential future transition of payroll in-house
Process Improvement
- Establish and refine accounting workflows, controls, and best practices
- Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions
- Serve as the go-to accounting resource for leadership
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Strong experience with both AR (collections-heavy) and AP
- Experience with accounting systems (Zoho Books, QuickBooks, or similar) and Excel
- Comfortable working independently as the sole accounting professional
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- High level of integrity, transparency, and accountability
