Job SummaryThe Phlebotomist / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) provides high-quality specimen collection services and represents the organization in a professional and patient-centered manner. This role involves performing venipuncture, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, explaining procedures to patients, and ensuring a safe and efficient workflow. The PSR II demonstrates leadership behaviors, accuracy, confidentiality, and a commitment to process excellence.Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Prepare specimens for lab testing following established protocols.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment.
- Complete both forensic and clinical specimen processing tasks confidently.
- Verify patient demographics and signatures post-collection to ensure proper labeling.
- Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Execute daily tasks accurately and on time with minimal supervision.
- Travel to multiple locations and provide coverage with minimal notice.
- Remain flexible for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime shifts.
- Demonstrate strong customer focus, communication skills, and adaptability within a high-volume setting.
Required Experience
- Three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred (retail or service industry).
- Strong keyboard/data entry experience required.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory in CA, NV, WA—but not required in NY).
Required Skills
- Excellent phlebotomy skills across all patient types.
- Ability to produce accurate, error-free work in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to work independently with strong decision-making ability.
Preferred Skills
- Strong verbal communication and patient engagement skills.
- Ability to adapt to workload, schedule, or site changes.
Additional Skills
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Competency in handling multiple priorities in high-volume settings.
- Strong professionalism, confidentiality, and organizational commitment.
