Under the direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor, the Machinist is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating machine tools to perform precision machining operations. The machinist works from drawings, schematics, and blueprints to ensure parts are produced to exact tolerances and finish requirements. This role may involve working with both manual and CNC machines.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools to perform precision machining tasks.
  • Work from technical documents such as drawings, schematics, and blueprints to machine parts using tools like turning machines, boring and drilling machines, grinders, and lathes.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Mastercam programming knowledge is beneficial.
  • Job Shop experience is a plus.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma required; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of machining experience, including both manual and CNC machining.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Physical Demands:
    • Standing (approximately 80%), sitting (approximately 10%), kneeling or crouching (approximately 10%).
    • Occasionally lifting parts, manuals, drawings, tools, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment:
    • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
