Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An immediate opening is available for a full-time self-contained special education teacher position located in the Clearwater, FL area, serving elementary through high school students in the Pasco County School District. This contract role requires expertise in working with students who have emotional behavior disorders, intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders across a variety of learning levels and exceptionalities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage small classrooms of 4-5 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Support and stabilize student behavior while maintaining effective educational delivery.
- Collaborate with behavior specialists and instructional assistants to create positive learning environments.
- Write and support IEP documentation, Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Participate in CPI training provided to handle and de-escalate challenging behaviors.
Qualifications:
- Valid Florida Educators Certificate in Exceptional Student Education (K-6 for Elementary or K-12 and content area for High School).
- Bachelors degree in Exceptional Student Education or a related field.
- Proven experience in a self-contained special education classroom setting.
- Strong skills in behavior management and delivering curriculum to students with diverse needs.
- Comfortable and confident in maintaining classroom stability and delivering instruction.
- Ability to complete Florida fingerprinting requirements and obtain a JLA badge.
Work Details:
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hour days), contract through 5/29/26.
- Multiple school locations prioritized include Lake Myrtle Elementary, Mittye P Locke Achievement Academy, and Achieve Center of Wesley Chapel.
- On-site work required (no virtual options).
