Job Description

Junior Fire Alarm Consultant / Expediting & Compliance Assistant

Location: New York City, NY

Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 (commensurate with experience)

About the Role:

Our fire protection consultancy client in New York City is seeking a motivated Junior Fire Alarm Consultant to join their team. This position is ideally suited for early-career fire protection or electrical engineers who are looking to transition into a specialist fire consultancy role.

You’ll receive hands-on mentoring and structured training from experienced fire protection professionals, with a clear path toward becoming a fully fledged fire protection consultant. You’ll gain direct exposure to FDNY compliance processes, fire alarm systems, and on-site inspection procedures, providing a strong foundation in both the technical and regulatory aspects of the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support FDNY compliance activities, including inspection requests, documentation, and filing processes.
  • Maintain organized records for fire alarm systems, emergency action plans, and fire protection documentation.
  • Accompany senior consultants on field inspections across New York City, gaining real-world experience in compliance assessments and fire protection evaluations.
  • Communicate with clients- including building owners, developers, and property managers- regarding basic inquiries and scheduling coordination.
  • Begin training in fire alarm design and fire protection system consulting, with opportunities to assist in drafting, report preparation, and compliance review.

What We’re Looking For

  • Recent graduate with a degree in Fire Protection or Electrical Engineering.
  • Interest in specializing in fire protection consulting, code compliance, or FDNY regulatory processes.
  • Willingness to work in both office and field settings, including occasional evening or weekend inspections.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with a detail-oriented approach to compliance and documentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or drafting software is beneficial, but not required- training will be provided.

No prior experience in fire protection consultancy is necessary, just a solid technical foundation and the drive to develop specialized expertise in this growing field.
