Tech 1, Product Development Engineering Compensation

The pay for this position is $26.00 per hour

Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment

A 401(k) with a company match is available for full-time employees with 1 year of service on our eligibility dates


Tech 1, Product Development Engineering Highlights

This position is a contract assignment with potential to hire on permanently based upon attendance, performance, and business needs

The required availability for this position is training Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, then transitioning to a later shift between 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM (examples: 11–7, 12–8, or 1–9)

On-site laboratory and machine shop environment supporting prototype development and 3D printing operations

Background check required prior to start
Drug test required only if operating forklift equipment


Tech 1, Product Development Engineering Responsibilities

  • Operate injection molding machines including startup and shutdown procedures
  • Load molding programs and make minor process adjustments to improve part quality
  • Monitor molded part quality and perform sorting based on classification standards
  • Trim and post-process molded prototype components (sanding, deburring, assembly, etc.)
  • Support material handling activities including drying resins and transporting materials within the lab
  • Perform mold changeovers using gantry crane equipment
  • Monitor and troubleshoot 3D printing builds to maintain continuous production
  • Perform post-processing of printed parts (cleaning, polishing, sanding, painting, finishing)
  • Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers and digital calipers
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor equipment repairs
  • Maintain supplies and prepare completed prototype parts for shipment
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and safety standards at all times


Tech 1, Product Development Engineering Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Attendance is mandatory for the first 90 days
Ability to work fully on-site in Durham, NC
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
Ability to work hands-on in a machine shop and laboratory environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and technical instructions
Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced prototype environment


Tech 1, Product Development Engineering Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with injection molding, plastics, or machine operation
  • Experience working in a machine shop or lab environment
  • Experience with 3D printing technologies (SLA, DLP, PolyJet, Carbon DLS, or FFF)
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Magics (model viewing)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting experience
