Inspector Aid - Roadway Construction

Job Location: Metro Atlanta, Georgia.
Position: Full time
This is entry level inspector work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers on assignments relating to highway and bridge construction inspection. Work is generally performed under technical and administrative supervision and may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
● High School Diploma or GED
● 0 - 2 years of experience in Roadway Construction
● Working knowledge of Microsoft office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
● Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law
Preferred qualification
● Knowledge of surveying, highway construction or design
● One (1) year transportation experience; or equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
Responsibilities:
● General level technical work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers in functional areas, such as construction inspection and surveying; scheduling and status; documentation; materials sampling; and inspection and testing
● Responsibilities include performing a range of routine and standardized work such as manual/electronic calculations, and inspections of construction and materials to assure contract compliance
● Inspect truck tickets for roadway aggregate base course; borrow material and asphaltic concrete at project field sites
● Perform a variety of simple materials sampling, inspection and testing
● Perform contract administrative duties, including field measurements of pay item quantities, project close-out, and other Department required documentation
● May be required to use equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc.,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of mathematical functions. Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators. Ability to read and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures, and good communications ability.
Certifications to be gained within the six months of employment:
1. Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
2. GDOT Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS).
3. GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
4. GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
5. OSHA 10
