Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Refrigeration Technician with proven experience in servicing, maintaining, and installing walk-in coolers and other commercial refrigeration systems. The candidate must possess strong technical knowledge, EPA Section 608 certification, and a commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations.
Location: Washington DC corridor
Pay: $55/hr- affiliated with the Local 602 union
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation & Setup
- Install commercial refrigeration systems including walk-in coolers, freezers, display cases, and chillers.
- Conduct site assessments and ensure proper placement, electrical connections, and insulation.
- Configure control systems and verify operational efficiency.
- Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine maintenance: clean coils, replace filters, inspect electrical components, and check refrigerant levels.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.
- Respond to emergency service calls and troubleshoot system failures.
- Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to OSHA, NSF/ANSI 7, and EPA Section 608standards.
- Handle refrigerants safely and legally, ensuring proper recovery, recycling, and disposal.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation for regulatory compliance.
- Customer Service & Communication
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding system performance, repairs, and energy efficiency.
- Provide recommendations for upgrades or preventive maintenance.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical training or HVAC certification- Current Journeyman HVAC license in MD, DC, or VA
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification(Type I, II, III).
- Minimum 5 years of experiencein commercial refrigeration, specifically with walk-in coolers and freezers.
- Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety protocols and walk-in cooler design standards.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with energy-efficient systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants.
- Knowledge of building codes and refrigeration regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service calls.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined, cold environments.
- Comfortable working on ladders, rooftops, and in walk-in units.
- Must wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols.
