Addison Group is hiring an External Communications Contractor on behalf of one of our clients to provide temporary coverage on a communications team. The organization operates in a high visibility environment where media exposure, public messaging, and accurate reporting are critical. The team regularly manages press activity, monitors media coverage, and supports external communications tied to campaigns and events.
Job Description:
The External Communications Contractor will support a communications team during a temporary coverage period. This role focuses on media distribution, monitoring media coverage, and preparing reports that measure the effectiveness of external communications efforts. The ideal candidate has experience working in organizations that are frequently referenced in the media and understands the importance of monitoring both traditional and digital news channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Distribute press releases and external announcements through media distribution platforms and email tools
- Monitor media coverage related to campaigns and events, compiling summaries, excerpts, and performance metrics
- Maintain dashboards and prepare recurring and campaign specific communications reports
- Support project tracking and workflow coordination to ensure communications deliverables stay on schedule
- Assist with additional external communications initiatives including media outreach, event communications, and social media support
- Collaborate with internal team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in external messaging
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field
- Three to five years of professional experience in external communications, public relations, or media relations
- Strong experience with media monitoring, press distribution, and media relations
- Demonstrated analytical skills with experience working with dashboards, reporting tools, and performance metrics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using media monitoring platforms such as Meltwater; familiarity with Brandwatch, AlertMedia, or similar tools is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, proactive work style, and effective project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Assignment length: Approximately 25 weeks
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm

Overtime: Not anticipated; supervisor approval required
