Job Description

The Senior Director, General Ledger (GL) will oversee all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficient financial reporting. This position reports directly to the SVP, Corporate Controller and will be key accounting leader working cross-functionally across several teams including Finance, Tax, and Property Operations.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies.

  • Lead the preparation, review, and analysis of key internal financial reports, including detailed balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.

  • Deliver timely insights and analysis of transactional activity, identifying trends and supporting executive-level decision-making.

  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing general ledger processes, systems, and internal controls to support scalability and efficiency.

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of GL accountants, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Serve as a primary liaison for internal and external audits, ensuring the accurate and timely submission of audit documentation and responses.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Tax, Treasury, and Property Operations teams to ensure alignment and integrity of financial reporting.

  • Clearly communicate complex financial information to diverse stakeholders, including executive leadership, in a concise and actionable manner.

  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends and provide insights to support decision-making

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to identify and resolve financial issues and discrepancies

  • Experience leading accounting functions through organizational transformation, such as mergers, acquisitions, system implementations, or geographic expansion.

  • Proven ability to build cross-functional partnerships and influence senior leadership to drive strategic financial outcomes.

  • Track record of creating scalable processes and organizational structures to support growth.

  • Proven ability to build cross-functional partnerships and influence senior leadership to drive strategic financial outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting, preferably within the Real Estate Industry

  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience driving ERP implementations or upgrades, particularly SAP S/4HANA preferred

  • Proven ability to build cross-functional partnerships and influence senior leadership to drive strategic financial outcomes.

  • Experience leading accounting functions through organizational transformation, such as mergers, acquisitions, system implementations, or geographic expansion a plus

  • Familiarity with REIT structures and related compliance/reporting requirements a plus

  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-location operations.

Public Storage teammates are expected to work in the office five days each week with the option to take up to three flexible remote days per month.
