Summary
The Human Resources Intern will gain hands-on experience across AANA Human Resource functions, including employee documentation compliance, onboarding processes, recruitment support, and employee engagement initiatives. This internship is designed to provide entry level exposure to HR operations while supporting team initiatives. The intern will collaborate closely with the Sr. Generalist/Recruiter, Director of HR, and Office Manager.
The AANA internship program is a professional opportunity guided by the AANA Values, experiential learning, and relationship building. This program spans on average 13 weeks, starting in May/June and concluding in August. Flexibility is available based on candidate(s) summer classes, if enrolled, and AANA Annual Congress. Interns will receive pay based on academic and prior experience ranging from $18 - $20 per hour. Typical working hours will be Monday - Thursday and equal about 20 hours a week.
Job Location
- This position is considered Hybrid with an expectation to be in the Rosemont, IL office 2-3 times a week.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
HR Documentation & Compliance Support
Percentage

Create and maintain new hire folders in HR SharePoint documents as needed.
Support general HR document clean-up and organization.
Perform file audits on I-9’s and employee files.
Assist with new hire onboarding documentation in ADP.
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HR policies and legal requirements.
Employee Engagement & Events Committee
Percentage

Attend Event Committee Meetings as an active participant in supporting monthly employee engagement at AANA All Staffs.
Create Canva’s for All Staff announcements and HR initiatives.
Support brainstorming, scheduling, and general success of the AANA Summer Event 2026.
Assist with set up and cleanup of monthly All Staff Meetings.
Assist the Office Manager and Generalist with employee perks programs.
Office Operations & Administrative Support
Percentage

Daily Mail and Package distribution in the office.
Support office inventory and storage.
Record/programming keycards for Verkada security system.
Assist the Office Manager with requests for service through building management and external vendors.
Attend meetings with Sr. Generalist, HR Director, and Office Manager for exposure on current support projects and education.
Internship Presentation
Percentage

At the conclusion of the internship, you will be asked to prepare and deliver a PowerPoint presentation.
Presentation should include key projects/accomplishments, observations, what was learned, and feedback for improving the internship program.
Experience & Skills
Experience:
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications or related field.
- Previous office experience, internships, or roles involving customer service, data entry, and record management are a plus.
Skills:
- Strong organizational abilities with tasks such as managing schedules, maintaining filing systems (digital or physical), and multitasking.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing participation in working groups and internal functions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications or related field.
ADA Requirements
Physical Requirements:
Performs primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to operate routine office equipment. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with a combination of remote and in-office work based on business needs. Employees must maintain a professional home workspace with reliable internet access. The role requires the ability to participate in virtual and in-person meetings. Occasional travel to the office or off-site events may be required.
