Job DescriptionDog Orphans is hiring a kennel person (experience preferred) for a part-time position, weekends only, Saturday & Sunday 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Holidays/snow days/bad weather are no exceptions, the animals must be cared for, regardless. The right person should be highly motivated, independent, responsible and able to work alone. You must have reliable transportation and come in on time daily. We cannot tolerate lateness.
You should be conscientious and able to follow detailed instructions on our cleaning protocol for the animals. Excellent cleaning skills are required. You must be able to lift 50 lbs (food) and not be afraid of dogs and live no more than 30 minutes from the shelter. Computer skills are a plus, as there may be some office work involved. The job entails thoroughly cleaning the dog kennel, floors, walls, letting the dogs out, and laundry, etc. You will also be dealing with customers, so a pleasant disposition is required as well as good customer and phone skills. Job Summary:
Perform all necessary work involved in maintaining the overall health and well-being of the dogs in our care while maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. Treat all dogs with kindness and respect and possess the necessary customer service skills to provide potential adopters with a friendly, positive experience.
Job Duties:
· Treat all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion always, regardless of the situation or circumstance.
· Adhere to shelter polices regarding safety protocols and general processes
· Clean and maintain kennels and animal living areas daily.
· Clean other shelter areas including grooming room and office area.
· Sanitize food and water bowls.
· Feed and water dogs twice per shift.
· Accept incoming dogs on arrival from transport.
· Follow proper safety measures when using chemicals and cleaning supplies to protect the health and well-being of the dogs.
· Wash, dry, fold and put away laundry.
· Provide courteous and expeditious customer service to potential adopters.
· Other duties as needed
General Qualifications:
· Must be 18 or older with reliable, consistent transportation
· Ability to multitask
· Good customer service skills
· Experience working with animals (other than your own pets)
· Minimal computer experience
· Handle and care for animals in a humane manner
· Work independently
