Job DescriptionRN – Labor & DeliveryOverview
We seek a compassionate and dedicated Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to join the Women & Family Center at a regional acute care hospital serving Southeast Iowa. This role provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for laboring patients, postpartum patients, newborns, and pediatrics within a collaborative, supportive environment.

This position reports to the Director of the Women & Family Center and plays a key role in ensuring safe, high-quality care across the perinatal continuum.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Provide direct nursing care for laboring patients, postpartum patients, surgical patients, newborn nursery, special care nursery, and pediatric patients.

  • Complete thorough physical and psychosocial assessments for assigned patients.

  • Create, update, and individualize nursing care plans in partnership with patients and families.

  • Implement and evaluate nursing care plans and contribute to the medical plan of care.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver holistic patient care.

  • Acknowledge and process physician orders through electronic order entry.

  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses using an electronic medical record.

  • Prepare and administer medications safely in alignment with the five rights of medication administration.

  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

  • Support team members and promote a positive, patient-focused environment.

  • Provide exceptional interpersonal communication and customer service.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.

  • Active Iowa RN license OR multistate compact RN license (Iowa participates in the NLC).

  • Current BCLS certification required.

  • NRP certification required within 12 months (training provided).

  • Basic fetal monitoring course required within 12 months.

  • Prior experience in Maternal Child Health or Medical/Surgical nursing preferred, not required.
