Job DescriptionRN – Labor & DeliveryOverview
We seek a compassionate and dedicated Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to join the Women & Family Center at a regional acute care hospital serving Southeast Iowa. This role provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for laboring patients, postpartum patients, newborns, and pediatrics within a collaborative, supportive environment.
This position reports to the Director of the Women & Family Center and plays a key role in ensuring safe, high-quality care across the perinatal continuum.
How You’ll Contribute

Provide direct nursing care for laboring patients, postpartum patients, surgical patients, newborn nursery, special care nursery, and pediatric patients.

Complete thorough physical and psychosocial assessments for assigned patients.

Create, update, and individualize nursing care plans in partnership with patients and families.

Implement and evaluate nursing care plans and contribute to the medical plan of care.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver holistic patient care.

Acknowledge and process physician orders through electronic order entry.

Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses using an electronic medical record.

Prepare and administer medications safely in alignment with the five rights of medication administration.

Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

Support team members and promote a positive, patient-focused environment.

Provide exceptional interpersonal communication and customer service.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.

Active Iowa RN license OR multistate compact RN license (Iowa participates in the NLC).

Current BCLS certification required.

NRP certification required within 12 months (training provided).

Basic fetal monitoring course required within 12 months.

Prior experience in Maternal Child Health or Medical/Surgical nursing preferred, not required.
